Campbell Creek Park

If you live on the south side of Anchorage, this is probably already your go-to spot — and for good reason. The playground got a solid upgrade not too long ago, with climbing structures and slides that actually hold the attention of kids from toddlers up through the grade school crowd, plus a water feature that becomes everyone’s favorite thing on a warm July afternoon. The trail system along Campbell Creek is the real draw though — you can easily burn an hour just walking or biking without doubling back, and the forest edges give it a feel that doesn’t remind you you’re in the middle of the city. Restrooms, picnic tables, shaded seating — it’s all there, and the parking situation is generally pretty manageable. When the creek is running right in summer, families show up with inner tubes, and honestly it’s one of those Anchorage scenes that reminds you why people put up with the winters.
