Down in Braithwaite, this state park is one of those spots that locals near New Orleans know about but don’t always shout from the rooftops. The splash pad is the real draw for the little ones — toddlers and elementary-age kids both get plenty of mileage out of it on a hot Louisiana day. Shade trees are actually plentiful here, so parents can claim a picnic table or a shaded seat and keep eyes on the kids without sweating through their shirt. The walking paths wind close to the forest edge, and the open grass field gives older kids room to just run. Restrooms, BBQ pits, and solid parking make it a genuinely easy full-day outing if you’re in the mood to camp or just need somewhere that isn’t chaotic.
