Carhartt Canyon (during KOH)

If you time it right and show up during King of the Hammers, this stretch of Homestead Valley transforms into something totally different from the quiet desert neighborhood it normally is. Carhartt Canyon becomes a prime viewing corridor for off-road racing, and locals know it’s one of the better spots to catch the action without fighting the main event crowds. The desert setting does the heavy lifting — open skies, rugged terrain, and that raw Mojave atmosphere that’s hard to fake. Families camp out here, kids go nuts watching the rigs crawl past, and it’s got a genuinely laid-back vibe compared to the chaos closer to the pits. Outside of KOH week, it goes back to being a peaceful neighborhood road — but that one week a year makes it worth knowing about.
