Beach Rd playground

If you’re spending the day at Whangamatā beach, this playground is basically right there — no hauling tired kids back to the car to find somewhere for lunch. The BBQ area and picnic tables make it genuinely easy to set up for a few hours, and there’s proper shaded seating so parents aren’t just standing around baking in the sun. It’s best suited to the littler ones, with a toddler area and a slightly more challenging zone for kids up to around 8 or so. Toilets on site, parking sorted, shade trees doing their job — someone clearly maintains this place well because it’s consistently in decent shape. The walking path along the beach side is a nice bonus once the kids have burned off some energy.
