Mordecai Mini Park

This little park punches way above its weight for a neighborhood spot. The whole thing is fenced in, which is a lifesaver if you’ve got a runner — kids can actually roam while you catch your breath on one of the shaded benches. Sand covers the play surface, so expect to shake out some shoes before you get back in the car, but the tunnels and climbing structure make it worth it. There are some quirky concrete play pieces that the younger kids absolutely lose their minds over. Honestly, for the 1-8 crowd, it’s one of the better low-key options in Raleigh — close to the neighborhood, not overrun, and shady enough that a summer morning visit won’t cook you alive.
