Sam Houston Jones State Park

If you’re anywhere near Lake Charles, this state park is worth the drive — honestly one of the better-kept parks in the area. The trails wind through real Louisiana forest with water nearby, so you’re getting actual scenery instead of just a grassy field with a swing set. Facilities got a solid renovation and it shows — the bathrooms are clean, which, let’s be real, matters more than people admit. Great for a day trip with kids or a longer stay since the RV hookups are legit and the cabins fill up fast on weekends for a reason. Rangers and staff here are genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions.
