Island Bay Playground

This one’s a solid pick if you’re in the south of Wellington and want somewhere that actually keeps kids busy for more than 20 minutes. The zipline and climbing structure do most of the heavy lifting, but the sandbox buys you extra time when the little ones need a change of pace. It catches the late afternoon sun nicely and sits sheltered enough that you’re not being blasted by southerly winds — which, if you know Wellington, is genuinely worth mentioning. The bike track nearby means older kids have somewhere to burn off energy while toddlers are still working the swings and merry-go-round. Parking’s easy, there are picnic tables, and the trails close by make it worth combining into a longer outing if you feel like it.
