Picton Memorial Park Playground

That pirate ship is genuinely one of the better playground centrepieces you’ll find in Marlborough — kids go absolutely feral for it, which buys you a solid hour of sitting back and taking in the harbour views. The water feature is a summer lifesaver, and the rubberized ground means you’re not constantly wincing every time someone takes a tumble. Toilets and parking are right there, so you’re not doing that frantic scramble you get at some of the more scenic but under-resourced spots. The open grass beyond the play area gives older kids room to kick a ball around while littlies stay busy on the equipment. If you’re passing through Picton on the ferry, this is the obvious place to stretch everyone’s legs before or after.
