Aotea beach reserve

If you know Kawhia, you know this spot. The reserve sits right by the beach, so you get that salt air hitting you as soon as you pull up, and the views make it pretty hard to leave in a hurry. It’s the kind of place locals bring a blanket and something to eat, let the kids run around, and end up staying way longer than planned. The walking path is an easy one, good for all ages, and the whole area has that unhurried community feel you don’t really get at busier beaches up the coast.
