Kaitawa Reserve Playground

The flying fox is honestly the main drawcard here, and kids will lap it up while you sit at one of the picnic tables and actually decompress for five minutes. It’s a genuinely quiet spot — the kind where you can hear tūī in the trees rather than traffic — which makes it feel a bit removed from the rest of Paraparaumu even though it’s not far at all. There are walking paths through the reserve if you want to stretch your legs, plus a decent open grass area and swings for the little ones. Toilets and parking are sorted, so it works well for a longer visit.
