Herrington Park – Play Area

If you’re local to Houghton le Spring, you probably already know this place is a solid day out without needing to spend a penny. The play area is fully enclosed which is a genuine relief if you’ve got younger ones who like to bolt — there’s a zipline, slides, swings, and a play train that keeps kids busy long enough for you to actually sit down. Water feature adds a nice touch in warmer weather, and the picnic tables mean you can make a proper afternoon of it. Beyond the play area, the lakeside walks are genuinely lovely, especially when the wildlife is active, and the trails through the wooded sections are worth exploring if you’ve got older kids or dogs in tow. Parking, toilets, the lot — it’s one of those parks that actually has its act together.
