Hillsborough Forest Play Park

If you haven’t taken the kids to Hillsborough Forest yet, you’re missing out on one of the best free days out in the whole area. The play park sits right in the thick of the forest, with trails winding off toward the lake — genuinely lovely, not just “nice for Northern Ireland” lovely. Kids up to 14 get good use out of it, and there’s enough open grass to burn off energy while the adults claim a picnic table and actually sit down for five minutes. The art pieces dotted around are a nice touch — they spark questions from younger ones, and the informative signage means you’re not just making things up on the spot. Toilets on site, shade when you need it, and wildlife to feed by the water — it ticks a lot of boxes without any fuss.
