Fairytale Town

If you have kids under 8 and haven’t been here yet, fix that. Fairytale Town in Sacramento is one of those places locals keep to themselves — a nursery rhyme-themed park with real farm animals, a play train, slides, climbing structures, and a water feature that basically saves you on hot Sacramento days. The shade trees and shaded seating are genuinely good, not just a bench in the sun with a tiny umbrella overhead, and the picnic tables make it easy to pack a lunch and stay most of the day. Admission is affordable enough that you won’t feel like you made a mistake if your toddler melts down by noon. The koi pond alone buys you a solid ten minutes of kid attention, which any parent knows is worth its weight in gold.
