James Alan McPherson Park

This park has come a long way since the renovation, and honestly it’s one of the better neighborhood spots in Iowa City right now. The climbing structure and swings cover the bases for little kids and older ones alike, and the basketball court with the lower hoop is a nice touch — you don’t see that everywhere. Shade trees and covered seating mean you can actually hang out here in the summer without melting, and the restrooms being clean and accessible makes a real difference for families with toddlers. The bike track and walking path keep things moving for kids who need to burn energy, and the lighting means the place stays usable well past dinner. Feels like a park the neighborhood actually wanted, not just something dropped in to check a box.
