Poplar Shelter & Playground – Carr Creek State Park

If you’re planning a trip out to Carr Creek State Park, this shelter and playground combo is worth putting on your radar. It stays genuinely clean and well-kept — not the kind of place where you’re dodging trash or wondering if the equipment is safe for your kids. Fair warning though: it books up, so call ahead and grab a reservation before you make the drive out to Sassafras. Good for the 2-12 crowd, and honestly one of the better-maintained spots in this part of eastern Kentucky.
