If you live on the Northshore and haven’t made this a regular weekend spot, you’re missing out. The lakefront views alone are worth the drive — Lake Pontchartrain stretching out in front of you while the kids hit the splash pad and you actually get to sit under a live oak and breathe for a minute. There’s a solid bike track and walking paths that wind through some seriously gorgeous old forest, and the picnic setup makes it easy to stay most of the day without scrambling for food. Restrooms are clean, parking is manageable if you get there early, and it works for pretty much every age group. Campers and cabin folks claim it gets even better overnight, but the day trip alone is worth it.
