Milham Park

One of Kalamazoo’s older parks, Milham got a solid upgrade not too long ago with a remodeled playground that’s genuinely accessible — designed with kids with autism and physical disabilities in mind, which you don’t see often enough. The climbing structure is well-thought-out, and there’s enough shade from the mature trees that you’re not roasting on a bench while the kids play. Pack a lunch because the picnic and BBQ setup here actually makes it worth staying a few hours. The walking paths wind through tree cover near Portage Creek, so it feels way more removed from the city than it actually is. Good parking, open grass for running around — it’s the kind of place locals have been coming to for generations for a reason.
