Mattocks Park

If you’re a Saint Paul local and haven’t made it to Mattocks Park yet, you’re missing out. The shade coverage here is genuinely impressive — big trees do the heavy lifting on hot summer days, and the benches and picnic tables underneath them actually get used. Little ones have their own toddler setup while older kids (up to around 10 or so) have a separate climbing structure with slides, and the sandbox stays busy pretty much all season. There’s also a running tradition of families leaving donated toys at the park, which sounds small but honestly makes the whole place feel more like a community than just a patch of equipment. Throw in a basketball court, open grass, and restrooms, and this quiet neighborhood spot checks a lot of boxes without the crowds you’d find somewhere bigger.
