Rockland Lake State Park Playground

If you haven’t taken the kids to Rockland Lake on a weekend morning, you’re missing out on one of the better spots in Valley Cottage. The playground covers all ages, and the nearly three-mile loop around the lake is flat enough that even little ones on bikes can handle it without too much complaining. Pack food — there are BBQ grills and picnic tables scattered around, so a full afternoon out here is genuinely easy to pull off. Benches line the path if you just want to sit and watch the water while the kids do their thing. Parking, restrooms, the lake views — it’s one of those parks where everything just works.
