Buffalo Soldier Field

Not a lot of playgrounds can say they sit on the grounds of a U.S. Military Academy, but this one does. Buffalo Soldier Field is right in the heart of West Point, so the backdrop alone is worth the visit — historic buildings, the Hudson River valley, the whole thing. It’s more of a sports and recreation field than a traditional playground setup, so manage expectations if you’re bringing little kids expecting climbing structures. That said, it’s a solid open space with room to run, and the setting honestly does most of the heavy lifting.
