If you’re a Durham local with kids in the 6-12 range, Mount Merrill is worth knowing about. The whole setup is built around this mountain-themed climbing structure — ropes, scrambling, the kind of thing that actually tires kids out. The metal slides are the real surprise here; unlike most metal slides that turn into frying pans in the summer, these ones stay genuinely cool. There are picnic tables if you want to stick around, and the base is solid underfoot, so you’re not sinking into woodchips or tripping over uneven ground. Pretty solid urban park option for Durham Central Park regulars.
