If you’re looking for a spot that actually delivers on the “get away from everything” promise, this Corps of Engineers park outside Prue is the real deal. Keystone Lake access means you can go from hiking the trails to wading in the water in about five minutes flat. There’s decent shade throughout, shaded seating for when you need a break, and the restrooms are kept up reasonably well — which matters more than people admit. The beach area draws families in summer, but honestly the wildlife viewing and quieter forested sections are what keep locals coming back. Bring a tent, plan to stay a couple nights, and don’t rush it.
