The Conococheague Institute

If you haven’t made the drive out to Mercersburg for this one, you’re missing out. The Conococheague Institute sits on a genuinely beautiful historical property where the grounds back right up against forested trails — the kind of place where kids can actually run around on the open grass while adults slow down and take it all in. The walking path is easy enough for everyone, and there are picnic tables if you want to make an afternoon of it. The staff here actually know their stuff, which makes a difference when you’re trying to get something out of the educational events beyond just standing around. Honestly it’s one of the better family spots in the area if you want something quieter than a typical park but still outdoorsy.
