Playground in Point Defiance Park

If you know Point Defiance, you know this playground has been here forever — and honestly, that’s part of the appeal. The log-construction climbing structure has a worn-in character you just don’t get from the plastic stuff, and the toddler swings are always a hit with the little ones. Tall trees keep things shaded, and there are plenty of picnic tables if you’re planning to make a full afternoon of it. You’re a short walk from the waterfront with views out to the Salish Sea, and the park trails are right there if the kids need to burn more energy after. Deer sightings on the path back to the car aren’t unusual — it’s that kind of place.
