Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area

Most people drive right past this place without realizing the dam tours alone are worth the trip. The views down into the Genesee River gorge are genuinely hard to believe — you’re standing on one of the largest earthen dams in the eastern U.S. and looking out over something that feels almost prehistoric. Bring the whole family: little ones can run around the picnic areas while older kids and adults do the tour or hit the hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest. There’s solid parking, plenty of shade trees, and BBQ spots if you want to make a full afternoon of it. Locals know this place — tourists mostly don’t, which honestly makes it better.
