Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse

If you haven’t taken a kid down that massive wooden slide yet, you’re missing one of Philly’s best free(ish) afternoons — it’s donation-based, which means basically anyone can show up. The Big Slide alone is worth the trip, but there’s also a full indoor playhouse, climbing structures, and a merry-go-round spread across genuinely sprawling grounds in Fairmount Park. Shade trees and picnic tables make it easy to settle in for a few hours without melting, and the open grass field gives kids room to just run if they need it. Honestly, it works for all ages — toddlers, older kids, even adults who can’t resist the slide.
