Onerahi Beach Playground

Locals know this one’s a bit of a gem for a reason — the beach is right there, the views across the harbour are genuinely hard to beat, and there’s enough going on to keep kids from 2 to 12 busy for a solid couple of hours. The climbing structure, slides, and swings cover the basics well, but it’s the whole setup that makes it worth the trip — BBQ areas, picnic tables, shaded seating, and actual restrooms mean you can make a proper afternoon of it. Food trucks swing by regularly too, so you’re not stuck packing everything from home. Honestly, on a sunny Northland day, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better spot in Whangārei for a family outing.
