Te Ranga Memorial Reserve

This one’s more history than playground, but locals know it well — it’s where one of the bloodiest battles of the New Zealand Wars was fought in 1864, and that weight stays with you when you walk through. The paths are easy going, well-maintained, and long enough to actually tire out a dog without looping the same stretch three times. Not really a destination for kids chasing slides and swings, but if you want somewhere quieter with a bit of substance to it, it delivers. Bring the dog, read the signage, take your time.
