Bowes Museum play area

Right next to the Bowes Museum, this little play area is one of those spots that locals know about but don’t always shout about. It’s free to use, which honestly makes it a no-brainer if you’re already heading into Barnard Castle for the day. The picnic tables are a proper bonus — pack a lunch and you’ve got yourself a decent afternoon sorted without spending a penny. It’s well maintained too, which isn’t always a given with free community spaces. Parking’s available nearby, so no faff getting there with the kids in tow.
