Right by Lake Merritt, this little spot got a solid upgrade not too long ago — the rubber surfacing makes a real difference if you’ve got a toddler who’s still figuring out the whole gravity situation. The climbing structure keeps kids busy, and the shade trees actually do their job on hot days, which Oakland summers will absolutely test. Fair warning: the swings are limited, so if you’ve got multiple kids fighting over them, that’s going to be your whole afternoon. Restrooms are close by, and the walking path means you can let older kids burn off energy while you keep an eye on the little ones. The farmers market on Saturdays and the library branch nearby make it easy to string together a whole morning out without getting back in the car.
