Mahanga Kakariki Reserve

If you’re heading out toward the airport, this little reserve is worth pulling over for. The aeroplane-themed playground is a genuinely good call when you’ve got kids who are already plane-obsessed — and with the airport right there, they can watch actual flights taking off while they play. Plenty of open grass to burn some energy, clean toilets on site, and it doesn’t get overrun with people. Solid break stop if you’re passing through Palmerston North and need five minutes of sanity.
