If you’re after somewhere the kids can properly wear themselves out without the chaos of a big city park, Rivelin Valley is worth the drive out. The water feature is the main draw for the little ones — toddlers especially go absolutely feral for it on a warm day — and there are slides and swings to keep things going once they’re done being soggy. It’s right on the edge of the valley trails, so you can do a proper walk along the river before or after, which honestly makes it feel like more of a day out than just a playground visit. Shade trees, picnic tables, parking, toilets — it’s all there, and the cafe means you don’t have to pack a full hamper. Best for the two-to-eight crowd, and parents can keep an easy eye on things throughout.
