East Potomac Park Playground

Down on the tip of the peninsula, this spot gets way less foot traffic than the Mall playgrounds, which is honestly the whole point. Kids 2 to 10 have plenty to work with — slides, swings, a climbing structure — while parents actually get to sit in the shade and decompress. The open grass field is right there if someone needs to burn off extra energy, and the walking and bike paths along the water make it easy to extend the outing. Pack a lunch, grab a picnic table, and you’ve got a solid half-day with the Potomac basically in your backyard. Come cherry blossom season, the whole place is borderline surreal.
