Washington Square

If you know North Beach, you know this park is basically the neighborhood’s living room. The big open grass field is where dogs run loose, kids kick balls around, and old-timers claim their favorite bench like it’s been deeded to them. Grab a coffee from one of the cafes on the perimeter and post up under the shade trees — honestly one of the better ways to spend a slow morning in SF. Saints Peter and Paul Church looming over the north end gives the whole place a classic San Francisco backdrop that never gets old. Picnic tables, restrooms, community events throughout the year — it’s got everything you actually need without trying too hard.
